Once you have created the Current State Value Stream Map, spend some time with the time to brainstorm and create a registry of opportunities for improvement. These are the “Kaizen Bursts” used in the VSM methodology. Treat this step as a first pass analysis only, since you’ll be redesigning the Value Stream from the ground up in any case. A 1-hour brainstorming session with your team should be sufficient. Add your ideas to a log sheet included in the Excel Line Design Workbook.
